Two more Advance Publications newspapers, the Harrisburg, PA, Patriot-News, and the Syracuse, NY, Post-Standard, have announced that they are cutting their print editions to three days a week and are increasing their “digital focus”. The rationales, new corporate structures, and even the wording of the announcements are strikingly similar to those made by the Times-Picayune and Advance’s Alabama newspapers last May, indicating that the gambit is a new corporate-wide strategy on the part of the Newhouse family, the owners of privately held Advance, that is gradually being rolled out in cookie-cutter fashion across the country.

Some analysis and commentary on the announcements has been published on the Poynter.org website here and here.
