I doubt that anyone who remains on the T-P staff still believes they are working for the same type of benevolent organization that existed when Ashton Phelps was really in charge.
Mr. Phelps is retiring, and the events of the past several months have demonstrated that the Newhouse family, through its Advance Publications, NOLA Media Group, and affiliated companies, is milking the Times-Picayune for its own ends.
The inevitable result will be relentless efforts to minimize costs, a major component of which is staff salaries and benefits.
The only way those who remain on the T-P staff can protect their jobs, their financial well-being, and their future is to unionize.
The sooner, the better.
